North Texas Air Medical Operators was founded by CareFlite Management for the purposes of promoting communication between operators and safety in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. There are many functions of what is sometimes referred to as the "Ops and Safety Council".
The Ops and Safety Council meets quarterly with other North Texas operators. The meeting is split into two sessions. The first session includes customer (hospital) particpants, FAA representatives, and any helicopter operators in our area that wish to attend. The second sessions is a meeting between DFW area helicopter EMS operators to discuss issues and invent creative solutions that can be agreed to as a standard for all operators involved.
The scope of the Safety Council is broad: from what radio frequencies should be used in order to communicate with one another, to collectively communicating with heliports that are safety hazards, to requesting improved lighting where necessary, even sharing weather information and obstructions among helicopter operators and pilots in our area.
